The armadillo's armour-like skin appears to be it's main defense, although most escape predators by fleeing (often into thorny patches, from which their armour protects them), or rolling up into a ball. Though a motorcyclist is not often found avoiding predators, they are instinctually avoiding cars and larger obstacles, wherefore, the helmet is a critical form of armour. It is also not uncommon for a motorcyclist to be found rolling up into a ball should they feel threatened.
